This year, Ottawa will be hosting the Paddarafung event for the Yogad migrant community living in North America. Paddarafung means "the gathering" in Yogad and it's a time to celebrate the language and culture of the Yogad people. For those living in the diaspora, this gathering is a vital part of what I call in my work as the "re-imagined home" (Quirante, 2024), where the members reconstruct the homeland in a migrant site. Canadian cities that have hosted the Paddarafung in previous years include Toronto and Montreal.
The main program features speeches and messages from guest speakers, cultural performances and festivities, as well as a segment that aims to honour past and present researchers in the field of Yogad research and development. It will be hosted both in Yogad and English, with participants coming from various cities in Canada, the US, and the Philippines. The deadline for registration is March 31, 2026.
